Delivery Worker Killed by a Dump Truck Driver Who Kept Going on West 34th Street
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (October 31, 2026) – A 50-year-old delivery worker has tragically died in a Manhattan hit-and-run dump truck accident near Penn Station.
New York City officials are saying that the collision occurred around 10:51 AM on Monday. The delivery worker was riding west on a rain-slick road when they were hit by a dump truck traveling the same direction.
Police believe that the dump truck driver may have been merging from the left lane into the right lane when it collided with the woman. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help her.
Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe nature of her injuries. Police are searching for the dump truck they believe was involved in the crash.
New York law sets clear duties and responsibilities for drivers that share the road with pedestrians and cyclists. Under VTL § 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Claims involving cyclists tend to revolve around a few key issues.
Cyclists lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are much more likely to be seriously injured or killed in the event of a crash. According to NHTSA, 1,166 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes across the United States. Roughly 81% of those deaths occurred in urban areas. Accident victims are protected by a number of laws. Families may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the delivery driver killed in this collision. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. The driver involved should do the right thing and come forward. It is never too late to do the right thing.
