Bronx Man Died After Becoming Entangled In Cement Mixing Truck on Grinnell Place By Barry Street and East 156th Street
BRONX, NEW YORK (March 10, 2024) – A worker has tragically died after becoming entangled in a cement truck along Grinnell Place by Barry Street.
New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place on Monday. A person became entangled in a cement truck.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, the man died due to his injuries.
It remains unclear if the man was a construction worker or involved with the cement truck in any way.
Thousands of workers are killed or seriously injured every year in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “The number of preventable work deaths increased 5% in 2022, totaling 4,695. In addition to preventable fatal work injuries, 791 homicides and suicides occurred in the workplace in 2022. These intentional injuries are not included in the preventable-injury estimates.” Construction companies should take a number of steps in order to prevent accidents.
Depending on the facts of any case, a construction company could be liable for a construction accident through New York Labor Law § 200. This statute codifies an employer’s general duty to maintain job sites in a safe condition. According to the statute, “All machinery, equipment, and devices in such places shall be so placed, operated, guarded, and lighted as to provide reasonable and adequate protection to all such persons.” It is important that certain steps be taken after any construction accident.
It can be hard to know where to begin after any construction accident. To make matters worse, construction companies will often do everything within their power to deny responsibility if someone is killed by one of their vehicles. That is why it is so important that every accident be evaluated by an outside party. If someone that you love has died in a construction accident, a construction accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who died in this accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NTPD. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
