Man Killed in Bronx Gas Explosion at High Rise Apartment

One Person Killed, 15 People Injured in Gas Explosion Accident at Bronx Apartment

BRONX, NEW YORK (April 30, 2026) – A man has tragically died in a Bronx gas explosion accident that left 15 other people injured at a high-rise apartment.
New York City officials are saying that the incident took place on Saturday. An explosion tore through multiple floors of the building.
Firefighters received reports of a gas leak prior to the blast. An estimated 15 people were taken to the hospital. One of the victims was listed in critical condition.
Sadly, one man tragically died due to his injuries. A full investigation into the cause of the blast remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Bronx Gas Explosion Accidents

Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. Moreover, property owners must warn of dangerous defects on a property that the defendant “should know or suspect that the licensee will not discover himself after a reasonable inspection of the premises” (Velez v City of New York, 45 AD2d 887). There are several ways that a property owner may fail to prevent a gas explosion.

  • A property owner may have ignored reports of a gas leak.
  • A property owner may have allowed unlicensed technicians to work on gas lines.
  • A property owner may have failed to inspect older gas lines.
  • A property owner may have failed to comply with building or fire codes related to gas lines.

When a property owner fails to maintain their premises in a safe condition, this could form the basis of a premises liability claim. There could also be several sources of liability for any gas explosion. This includes the company responsible for maintaining gas lines. Gas companies must routinely inspect their lines and fix any errors that could contribute to a leak. The family of any person who died in a gas explosion may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
