GRAVESEND, BROOKLYN (April 21, 2026) – A 78-year-old man has tragically died and 10 other people were injured in a Gravesend FDNY truck accident.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:45 PM on Tuesday. An FDNY fire truck was heading down Avenue S when it was involved in the collision with an Access-A-Ride van.
The force of the accident pushed the van into a Lexus. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims.
A total of 10 people were transported to area hospitals to receive treatment. One person also died due to their injuries.
All drivers in New York have an obligation to use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. If a fire truck or commercial van were involved in a collision, liability for the crash could extend to several different parties. The company that owned or operated those vehicles could be held at fault. Employers in New York can be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people who were injured in this NYFD accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
