NYPD Initially Believed That Victim Was Pushed But Now Suspects He Fell
QUEENS, NEW YORK (September 3, 2026) – A 67-year-old man has tragically died in an accident at the Parsons Boulevard subway station in Jamaica, Queens.
New York City Police Department officials are saying that the incident occurred around Friday afternoon. The victim was found unresponsive on the subway tracks and taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
A family member said that he suffered a fractured skull in the incident and later died at the hospital. Investigators initially believed that he may have been pushed onto the subway tracks.
But surveillance footage shows that there was no one else around at the time of the incident. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises and a reasonably safe condition. Transit carriers have a heightened duty towards their customers as explained in Bethel v. New York City Transit Authority, 92 N.Y.2d 348 (1998). Courts will take into consideration numerous factors when determining whether or not a carrier in New York could be liable for any accident where a person fell and was injured.
When a carrier has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their premises, they must take action. Failing to take action could form the basis of a negligence claim. When it comes to falls, a number of these accidents are the result of defects in a walkway that could cause someone to trip. This might include a slightly raised surface that catches the bottom of a person’s shoe. The family of any person who died in an accident at a subway station in New York City may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who died in this subway station accident in Jamaica, Queens. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to investigators. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong for the sake of the victim’s family.
