Rockland County School Bus Involved in Major Injury Crash That Killed 7-Year-Old Girl in Monsey
MONSEY, NEW YORK (July 8, 2026) – A seven-year-old girl has tragically died after a Rockland County school bus accident along Blauvelt Road.
Rockland County officials are saying that the collision occurred shortly after 9 AM on Wednesday. A 28-year-old man was operating the school bus when he reportedly hit the girl.
Paramedics rushed to the scene of the collision to help the injured victim. Unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.
School buses are normally very safe for their passengers. But they can be particularly dangerous to pedestrians. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 110 people nationwide in 2024, down 14% compared to the 128 deaths in 2023, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” Multiple factors could contribute to any school bus accident.
Bus companies are considered common carriers. They must exercise an abundance of caution to avoid causing harm to their passengers or pedestrians. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for any specific bus accident is not limited to the bus driver determined to be at fault. Their employer could also be found liable for the crash.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the young girl killed in this collision. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to make the stretch of roadway safer. Many more questions have yet to be answered.
