Young Girl, 16, Killed in Queens Car Accident Involving Chevrolet Suburban
QUEENS, NEW YORK (October 28, 2025) – A 16-year-old girl has tragically died in a Queens hit-and-run car accident at Roosevelt Avenue and Benham Street.
New York City officials are saying the collision took place around 4:14 AM on Saturday. A 38-year-old man was driving a 2009 Chevy Suburban when he hit the 16-year-old girl and a 32-year-old woman.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. She was taken to a hospital in order to receive treatment. Sadly, she died at the hospital.
The driver involved in the crash is facing numerous charges, including DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Many people are killed or seriously injured each year in accidents involving hit-and-run drivers. According to the NHTSA, “There were 2,932 fatalities in traffic crashes involving hit-and-run drivers in 2022, an increase of 0.5 percent from 2,917 in 2021. Of the 7,522 pedestrian fatalities, 1,910 (25%) were involved in hit-and-run crashes in 2022. Of the 1,105 pedalcyclist fatalities, 265 (24%) were involved in hit-and-run crashes in 2022.” Drivers should take a number of actions to avoid collisions with pedestrians.
Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or cyclist on the roadway. This necessitates that they operate their vehicle at a safe speed. They also yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian crossing in a lawfully marked crosswalk. It is important that certain actions are taken after any collision.
