Head-On Car Accident in Salem County Leaves Four People Dead on the New Jersey Turnpike
SALEM COUNTY, NEW JERSEY (January 4, 2025) – Four people have tragically died in a Salem County truck accident on the New Jersey Turnpike by milepost 1.3.
New Jersey State Police are saying that the accident took place around 12:40 AM on the southbound lanes of the freeway. A Mazda SUV with three passengers was involved in a head-on collision with a Dodge pickup truck.
The Mazda was subsequently struck by a tractor-trailer truck following the initial crash. Tragically, four people were killed in the collision.
At least one person suffered serious injuries.
Speeding remains one of the leading causes of preventable car accidents in the United States. Pursuant to NJ Rev Stat § 39:4-98, no person shall operate a motor vehicle at a speed greater than would be reasonable or prudent given the prevailing road conditions. Drivers should take several measures to avoid accidents.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could be construed as negligence. In particular, truck drivers are expected to operate with an abundance of caution, given the inherent dangers of operating a commercial vehicle. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to all of the families affected by this horrific tragedy. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
