MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (December 9, 2024) – At least four people were injured in East Village, Manhattan, near East 6th Street and Third Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. An out-of-control vehicle hit a pedestrian and a taxi before crashing into several parked cars.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims. The pedestrian and three people in the vehicles were all taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment.

Liability for East Village Car Accidents

Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Between 1913 and 2022, the number of motor-vehicle deaths in the United States (which include all types of motor vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles) increased 996%, from 4,200 deaths in 1913 to 46,027 in 2022.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to car accidents.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions

All drivers must take caution in order to avoid colliding with other vehicles. The faster people travel in their vehicles, the more likely they are to lose control. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any collision.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be sought.
  • Surveillance footage should be reviewed.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

Car accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to occur because one or more drivers were committing a traffic infraction. Any person injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
