One Person Critically Injured in Queens Collision Along the Cross Island Parkway That Left Five Others Hospitalized
QUEENS, NEW YORK (September 8, 2026) – At least five people were hospitalized after a car accident on the Cross Island Expressway in Queens.
New York City police are saying that the accident occurred around 1:42 AM on Sunday. Initial reports indicate that a Toyota Camry collided with the rear of a Honda.
The force of the impact caused the Camry to overturn and eject two of the vehicle’s passengers. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all of the victims.
In total, five people were hospitalized, and one person was listed in critical condition. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Speed remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2024, killing 11,288, or an average of over 31 people on a typical day. A crash is considered speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense or if racing, driving too fast for conditions, or exceeding the posted speed limit was indicated as a contributing factor in the crash.” Several steps should be taken after any car accident.
If a driver failed to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends another vehicle in their own lane of traffic. These types of collisions are nearly always the result of speeding or following the lead vehicle too closely. Any person injured in a motor vehicle collision may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil action.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Queens car accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable crash that should not have taken place. Many important questions have yet to be answered.
