BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN (April 22, 2026) – A daycare teacher at The Learning Factory in Brooklyn identified as Devonte Brown has been arrested following child sexual abuse allegations.
New York City officials are saying that the abuse allegedly took place over an 18-month period. The victims were between five and nine years old.
Prosecutors are accusing Devonte Brown of touching the intimate parts of his victims. The arrest comes after two of the girls came forward and told their parents about what happened.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is currently looking into the possibility that there could be other victims who have yet to come forward. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Sexual abuse and misconduct have remained very common across New York City. According to the New York Post, “Dozens of New York City educators have been accused of having inappropriate, often sexual relationships and communications with students, with some requesting nude snaps or plying them with money, gifts or drugs, newly released records show.” Schools should take several different actions to prevent abuse.
Schools and daycare centers have a legal obligation to protect children from abuse and other reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This necessitates that they abide by all rules and regulations necessary for a child’s protection. When school officials failed to adequately supervise students who were abused, this could serve as evidence of negligence. The victims and their parents are able to see some measure of accountability through a civil action.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the families who have been affected by the alleged misconduct of Devonte Brown. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into the scope of the wrongdoing. Many questions have yet to be answered.
