Cyclist Died in Collision With Mack Dump Truck in Borough Park, Brooklyn by 16th Avenue
BOROUGH PARK, BROOKLYN (May 21, 2026) – A bicyclist has tragically died in a Borough Park truck accident by the intersection of 16th Avenue and 49th Street.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 3 PM on Tuesday. A cement truck was heading down the road when it was involved in the collision with a bicyclist that was also heading south.
Paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident to help the victim. The 53-year-old cyclist was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition.
Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Speed remains one of the major causes of preventable car accidents across NYC and the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541.” Several other factors could contribute to a car accident.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a bicyclist or other vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any specific driver. The company that owned any commercial truck could also bear some liability for the crash. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the cyclist killed in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be some accountability for the sake of the victim’s family.
