Construction Worker Killed, Two Injured in Suffolk County Car Accident

Investigation Underway After Car Plows Into Long Island Construction Site by Terry Road and Townline Road

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK (August 10, 2026) – One person has tragically died and two people were seriously injured in a Long Island car accident at a construction site near Terry Road and Townline Road.

Long Island police officials are saying that the accident occurred around 6:43 AM on Monday morning. A car was heading through the intersection when a vehicle jumped the sidewalk and struck three workers.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. Sadly, one worker died due to the severity of his injuries.

Two other workers were badly injured and transported to local area hospitals. Investigators believe that speed was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Suffolk County Car Accidents

Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York must exercise due care to avoid hitting any pedestrian or vehicle. This requires that they maintain their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are many different ways that speeding can contribute to any car accident.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver who enters onto a sidewalk and hits a pedestrian outside of the roadway. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for any pedestrian accident. This is particularly true when a worker is injured. A general contractor could face liability if they failed to maintain a worksite in a reasonably safe condition. They may have also failed to implement reasonable safety measures to protect workers from vehicles.
