Construction Worker Killed In Winslow Township on the Atlantic City Expressway

Worker Died After Being Hit by Attenuator Truck in Winslow Township Construction Site on the AC Expressway

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY (August 2, 2025) – A 31-year-old construction worker has tragically died in a Winslow Township truck accident on the AC Expressway.

New Jersey State Police are saying that the collision took place around 7 AM in the eastbound lanes of the AC Expressway. An attenuator truck was backing up to pick up cones from the shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the truck was unaware of a worker behind him and accidentally ran that worker over. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim.

Sadly, he later died due to the severe nature of his injuries.

Liability for New Jersey Truck Accidents

Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death for workers. According to the National Safety Council, “Injuries resulting from roadway incidents involving motorized land vehicles is the leading cause of work-related deaths. In 2023, 1,252 workers died and in 2021-2022, 68,560 DART cases including 54,830 DAFW cases were reported.” Construction companies should take a number of measures to protect workers from car accidents.

  • Workers should be given high-visibility vests.
  • Workers should be trained to communicate with one another.
  • Construction sites should be overseen by a safety manager.

All truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. This may necessitate that they exit their vehicle or use a spotter if they are backing up. If a truck driver runs over a pedestrian while backing up their vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is essential that certain steps are taken after any car accident at a job site.

  • The police should be called to the scene so that they can begin an investigation.
  • Medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • The circumstances leading up to the crash should be investigated.

The family of any worker killed in a New Jersey construction site may be able to seek aid through a workers’ compensation claim. This is a no-fault insurance claim. In addition to workers’ compensation, surviving family members may be able to pursue a third-party liability claim. A third-party liability claim may be possible if an entity separate from the worker’s employer contributed to an accident.
