Investigation Underway After Child Found Unresponsive at Binghamton Country Club in Endwell

ENDWELL, NEW YORK (July 15, 2026) – An 11-year-old boy has tragically died in a drowning accident at the Binghamton Country Club in Endwell, New York.

Broome County officials are saying that the incident occurred on July 8. The child was found unresponsive in the pool at the country club.

State troopers and paramedics were called to the scene of the incident to help the victim. They encountered bystanders and lifeguards initiating CPR on the boy.

He was transported to the Wilson Medical Center before being airlifted to Upstate University Hospital.

Sadly, the child died roughly one day later after being transported to the hospital. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for New York Drowning Accidents

Drowning remains a leading cause of preventable injury and death for children across the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 5-14. Every year in the United States there are over 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths.” Business owners should take several measures to prevent drowning accidents.

  • Businesses should restrict access to pools and other bodies of water that could create a drowning hazard. This may involve erecting a fence around the perimeter of a pool.
  • Businesses may need to hire trained lifeguards to monitor the pool. This is especially important at any institution where children are likely to be swimming.
  • Businesses should ensure that their pools are routinely inspected and properly cleaned. Murky pools make it more difficult to see a child who may be struggling underneath the water.

If a business owner has actual or constructive knowledge of a dangerous condition on their property, they must take action. Failing to take action could be considered negligence. Drowning accidents can be prevented when the right safety measures are in place. The family of any child who drowned at a business may be able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a wrongful death claim.
