Driver Allegedly Accelerated Through Stop Sign Prior to Fatal Crash That Killed Infant
QUEENS, NEW YORK (October 18, 2026) – A one-year-old child tragically died in a Queens car accident involving a nanny that was pushing a stroller.
New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 8:35 AM on Saturday, October 11. A nanny was reportedly pushing a stroller when that stroller was hit by a driver that blew past a stop sign without stopping.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. Sadly, the child was beyond medical assistance and later pronounced deceased.
The driver involved in the crash has since been arrested on suspicion of DWI. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
It is illegal to operate any motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Despite this, many drivers get behind the wheel every year while intoxicated. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 32 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 44 minutes. In 2024, 11,904 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” Even small amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.
If a driver gets behind the wheel of a vehicle and causes a crash while intoxicated, they could be liable under the legal doctrine of negligence per se. Drivers that cause accidents while intoxicated could also face criminal liability for their actions in addition to civil liability. The family of any person who died in a DUI accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the child killed in this collision. This was a preventable tragedy that should’ve never taken place. Any person that may have more information about what occurred should reach out to authorities.
