Multiple Injured In Queensboro Hill, Queens After MTA Bus Collides With Pole at 57th Road and Main Street
QUEENS, NEW YORK (July 12, 2025) – At least 8 people were injured in Queensboro Hill, Queens, in an MTA bus accident at 57th Road and Main Street.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6 AM on July 11. The MTA bus was traveling westbound on 57th Rd. and was beginning to make a right turn onto Main Street.
For undetermined reasons, the bus collided with a light pole that caused substantial damage to the right side of the bus. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims.
At least eight people were hurt in the crash. All were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital.
Many people are injured in bus collisions every year in the United States. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury. About 50 passengers (including the driver) are killed, on average, in a given year.” Bus drivers should take many measures to avoid collisions.
Bus companies are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution in order to avoid causing harm to passengers. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with some fixed object, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain actions are taken after any bus accident.
The FMCSA requires commercial buses that can carry 16 or more passengers to have at least $5 million in liability coverage. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of a bus driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. However, bus companies and their insurance providers will often fight hard to avoid legal responsibility for collisions. This is why it is so important that victims seek the guidance of an experienced attorney.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Queensboro Hill MTA bus accident. This was a preventable crash that should not have taken place. Any person that may have more information should reach out to the NYPD.
