13 Injured in Motorcycle Accident at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn

Three-Wheeled Motorcycle Crashed Into Group of People at Commodore Barry Park, Leaving 13 Injured

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (July 1, 2026) – At least 13 people were injured in a motorcycle accident inside Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn near Flushing Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 6:40 PM on Sunday evening. A woman was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle when she crashed into a crowd of people that were gathered at Commodore Barry Park.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the injured victims. In all, 13 people were transported to local hospitals to receive treatment.

Witnesses are reporting that a family was eating inside of the park when the motorcycle crashed into the area. Police have arrested a 53-year-old woman who was allegedly driving the motorcycle.

She has since been charged with reckless endangerment and failure to yield to pedestrians.

Liability for Brooklyn Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1151, “When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian.” There are many ways that a driver may have acted negligently prior to a pedestrian collision.

  • A driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing road conditions.
  • A driver may have made a sharp turn, which caused them to lose control of their vehicle.
  • A driver may have been intoxicated by their use of drugs or alcohol.
  • A driver may have failed to properly scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians or other hazards.

If a driver does not slow down and hits a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that leaves the roadway before colliding with a pedestrian. These types of collisions nearly always involve drivers that are speeding or committing other traffic infractions. Any person who is injured due to the negligence of another driver is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
