Cause of Bronx Apartment Fire That Injured 12 People Remains Under Investigation
BRONX, NEW YORK (March 17, 2026) – At least 12 people were injured in a Bronx apartment fire on the 3400 block of Kingsbridge Avenue.
New York City officials are saying the accident took place around 3:00 PM on Tuesday. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the apartment after getting reports of a fire on the upper floors.
In all, five people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals. It took firefighters a little over an hour to eventually get the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. A full investigation remains ongoing.
Fires at residential facilities remain very common. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Of the estimated 12,676 reported structure fires that occurred in residential properties each year from 2019–2023, over half of the properties involved in those incidents were coded as unclassified multi-family dwellings.” Multiple factors can contribute to an apartment fire.
Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their privacy in a safe condition. This necessitates that they comply with all fire and building codes. If apartment owners fail to comply with building codes, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured in a residential fire may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Bronx apartment fire. It is our sincere hope that all of the victims will be able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into how the fire started so that similar incidents can be prevented.
