New York City Health Department Officials Indicate Death Toll Rises to 11 Following Upper East Side Legionnaires’ Outbreak

UPPER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK (September 1, 2026) – At least 11 people have died so far in the deadly Upper East Side Legionnaires’ disease outbreak that has rocked the city.

New York City Department of Health officials are saying that an additional 94 people have been sickened in connection with the outbreak. Health officials have indicated that dozens of buildings have tested positive for Legionella bacteria.

Affected buildings have been ordered to take remediation steps, including cleaning their cooling towers. ZIP codes 10128, 10028, and 10075 are no longer believed to be major sources of exposure.
