An NYC construction worker suffered serious injuries after he fell from scaffolding at a church construction site in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on April 9th around 2 p.m. The worker was employed by 4M Construction to do brick work on the Trinity Grace Church located at 231 Ainslie Street in Williamsburg. He was on scaffolding when he fell two stories onto the sidewalk shed.
The worker, who seemed to have been critically injured and bleeding from the mouth, was removed from the roof of the sidewalk shed and rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens. A neighbor who lives across the street from the church had complained to 311 about the work site and the unsafe conditions.
Construction accident fatalities have become a public health epidemic that is brought on by inadequate safety regulations. The lack of safety on construction sites happen because it pays for companies to run the risk of letting them happen.
More Accidents Continue To Prove the Need for Safer Construction Site Procedures
The number of construction site injuries and fatalities has predictably soared in NYC during the past few years. These shocking numbers prove that we need tougher licensing requirements for contractors, frequent safety inspections, and robust worker training. This may not get rid of all construction site accidents, but it will reduce the number of serious injuries and fatalities.
