Liability For Patchogue Workplace Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the main causes of workplace injuries and deaths in United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Millions of workers drive or ride in a vehicle as part of their jobs, and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of work-related deaths in the United States. From 2011-2020, more than 17,000 workers in the U.S. died in a work-related motor vehicle crash.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid collisions.

  • Drivers should slow down during periods of inclement weather.
  • Drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

Every driver has a legal obligation to slow down to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists and domestic animals in the roadway. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable and involve some amount of driver error. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any pedestrian accident.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • The injuries sustained in a crash should be documented.
  • Workers should let their doctors know they were injured on the job.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

If a worker was injured on the job, they may have recourse through a worker’s compensation claim. An injured worker may also be able to seek aid through a third party liability claim. Damages in a civil claim can help many of the expenses that come with a serious injury. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
