On June 9, 2017, a woman did not notice an open sidewalk access door in front of her and fell down the hole. She dropped nearly six feet down the stairs into a basement. Paramedics and a fire crew lifted her from the basement. She was ambulanced to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Surveillance video shows that the 67-year-old woman was on her phone and was most likely distracted when she got to the open access door at Acme Windows and plunged head-first. The access door was open because crews were working on gas lines. Although witnesses and police say it appeared that the unidentified woman was distracted by her phone, her son claims she’s visually impaired and diabetic.
Cell Phone Distractions – Dangers Not Limited to Driving
Cell phones have become a normal part of our lives. People use cell phones all throughout the day, including while walking and even worse while driving. Although cell phones are a great source of communication, they can also be extremely dangerous if not used properly.
Texting or using your phone while driving can be dangerous. In fact, the use of cellphones while driving is banned in most states in the hopes of preventing and reducing serious accidents.
If you or a loved one has been the victim of an accident involving the use of phones, you may be entitled to monetary compensation. An experienced NYC accident attorney can increase your chances of winning and getting full compensation.
