Woman Killed In Crown Heights Car Accident on Utica Avenue

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (January 20, 2022) – A 75-year-old woman was tragically killed in a Crown Heights truck accident along Utica Avenue, according to the NYPD.

Police officials said that the collision took place around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a truck.

The truck driver apparently did not have a license at the time of the collision. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

Sadly, she died due to the severe nature of her injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Brooklyn Car Accidents

All drivers must use caution to avoid causing accidents. Pursuant to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1146(a), all drivers must exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. If a driver fails to reduce their speed in order to avoid a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There are many steps that should be taken after any collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be reviewed.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.

If a truck driver was working at the time of any collision, their employer could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees. The family of any person that is killed in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
