Liability For East Islap Bar Shootings

Business owners in New York have a legal responsibility to maintain their properties in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for the protection of everyone on a property whose presence is reasonably foreseeable. Reasonable steps must be taken to protect guests from criminal activity.

  • Security guards may need to be hired for a certain location
  • Video surveillance may be needed.
  • Parking lots should be well lit.

Businesses in high crime areas will typically require greater security measures. If a property owner fails to take reasonable measures to protect guests from crime, this could form the basis of a negligent security claim. Any person that is injured while at a business may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
