Two People Injured In Brooklyn Boom Truck Accident By New York Avenue near Rockaway Avenue

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (March 16, 2023) – At least two people were injured in a Brooklyn boom truck accident by the intersection of New York Avenue near Rockaway Avenue.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday afternoon. A boom truck was involved in a collision with a yellow cab van.

The force of the impact crushed the roof of the yellow cab. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims.

Two people were reportedly injured in the crash.

Liability For Boom Truck Accidents

Commercial trucks can be particularly dangerous for those in smaller vehicles. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), over 4,000 people were killed in semi-truck accidents in 2020 alone. Trucks can weigh 20 – 30 times more than passenger vehicles and can therefore be particularly dangerous. There are a number of factors that could contribute to a truck accident.

  • Trucks tend to have very large blind spots that can obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Truck drivers are put under an enormous among of pressure to complete their routes quickly. This can lead to them becoming dangerously fatigued.
  • Trucks take much longer to stop than other vehicles.

Many truck accidents are due to truck drivers that are traveling too fast. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1180, no person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed greater than would be reasonable or safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Many people who are injured in truck accidents may not realize the full extent of their injuries for several days or weeks after a collision. Even after a person’s physical injuries have healed, many accident victims suffer from long-term PTSD. Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
