Two Pedestrians Killed In Manhattan Collision on West 207th

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (August 11, 2023) –  Two pedestrians have tragically died following a two-vehicle crash in Manhattan along West 207th Street.

New York City police officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday. Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision after one vehicle was headed in the wrong direction.

The force of the impact caused one of the cars to veer onto the sidewalk and strike two pedestrians. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.

Sadly, two pedestrians died due to the severe nature of their injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Manhattan Pedestrian Accidents

Speed remains one of the leading causes of car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2021, killing 12,330, or an average of over 33 people per day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 11,057.” There are a number of reasons that speeding can be dangerous.

  • Drivers are more likely to lose control when they are speeding.
  • Drivers take much longer to stop if they are speeding.
  • Drivers are more likely to cause accidents when they are speeding.

All drivers must use caution to avoid causing accidents. No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed greater than what would be safe or reasonable given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. Driving the speed limit at night when pedestrians are less visible could be dangerous. The family of any person that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
