Liability For Manhattan Pedestrian Accidents
Speed remains one of the leading causes of car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2021, killing 12,330, or an average of over 33 people per day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 11,057.” There are a number of reasons that speeding can be dangerous.
- Drivers are more likely to lose control when they are speeding.
- Drivers take much longer to stop if they are speeding.
- Drivers are more likely to cause accidents when they are speeding.
All drivers must use caution to avoid causing accidents. No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed greater than what would be safe or reasonable given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. Driving the speed limit at night when pedestrians are less visible could be dangerous. The family of any person that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
