Pedestrians Killed In Car Accident Involving Motorcyclist In Lake George On  U.S. Route 9

Two Pedestrians Killed In Lake George Car Accident on U.S. Route 9

LAKE GEORGE, NEW YORK (June 14, 2022) – Two pedestrians were killed in a Lake George motorcycle accident on U.S. Route 9 after motorcycle went into bicycle lane.

Lake George police officials are saying that the accident took place on Sunday. Two pedestrians were in a bicycle lane when they were hit by a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. A 33-year-old pedestrian and a child died after the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle did not have a license and previously had his learner’s permit suspended. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Lake George Car Accidents

Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the Center’s for Disease Control, “More than 7,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2020. That’s about one death every 75 minutes. One in six people who died in crashes in 2020 were pedestrians.” Pedestrian accidents are more likely to occur in the following scenarios.

  • Accidents are more likely to occur in the early morning and late evening.
  • Young children and elderly pedestrians tend to be particularly at risk in pedestrian accidents.
  • Nearly 1/3 of fatal pedestrian collisions involve an intoxicated driver.

All drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents could be prevented if drivers properly scanned the road ahead of them. If the driver of a motorcycle fails to exercise due care and strikes a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The family of any victim that died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim  can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral costs. Sadly, insurance companies will do everything in their power to deny liability for any collision. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
