Two NYPD Officers Injured In Bronx Car Accident By East 158th Street and Grand Concourse

THE BRONX, NEW YORK (January 13, 2022) – Two NYPD officers were injured after a car accident in the Bronx near the intersection of East 158th Street and Grand Concourse.

New York Police Department officials are saying that the collision took place around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday. An NYPD SUV collided with two parked vehicles before overturning in the roadway.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the officers. They were taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment.

Liability In Bronx Police Car Accidents

Police officers have dangerous jobs and are often forced to put themselves in harms way when they respond to emergencies. But many officers are also injured in collisions during the normal course of their job duties. According to one report from the Centers for Disease Control, “Motor vehicle-related incidents are a leading cause of line-of-duty deaths for law enforcement officers in the United States – they are also preventable.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Dangerous turns

When a NYPD officer is injured in the line of duty they may be able to seek damages through the worker’s compensation system. Damages can help cover lost wages, short term disability, long term disability and medical costs. An injured worker may also be able to seek aid through a third party liability claim if a car accident was due to the negligence of a person or entity outside of their job. There are a number of steps that should be taken after a collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be consulted.

Any worker that is injured in a car accident is protected by a number of laws. It is extremely important that evidence is preserved after a collision. A New York City car accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims.
