Liability For Queens Ambulance Accidents
Accidents involving ambulances may seem like freak occurrences, but they are actually very common. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2020, 180 people died in crashes involving emergency vehicles. The majority of these deaths were occupants of non-emergency vehicles (56%). Deaths among pedestrians accounted for another 25%, while emergency vehicle drivers represented 11% and emergency vehicle passengers accounted for about 5% of the deaths.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Organ damage
Emergency vehicle operators have a great deal of immunity for civil liability if they are in the middle of an emergency with their sirens activated. When an ambulance is not responding to an emergency, they must obey traffic regulations like every other driver. A number of collisions are caused by ambulance drivers that make dangerous left turns. Any person that is injured in a collision with an ambulance may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.
