lawyertime

BRONX, NEW YORK (December 9, 2021) – Multiple people were injured in a Bronx hair salon accident after the first floor suddenly collapsed into the basement.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place on Sunday. Multiple people fell through the floor of the Bronx salon after the floor gave way.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident in order to help the people who fell into the basement. At least three people were taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment.

Department of Building (DOB) inspectors were called to the scene in order to assess the damage. DOB inspectors said that collapse was an isolated incident and that the rest of the building was stable.

Liability In Bronx Hair Salon Accidents

Floor collapses may seem like freak occurrences, but they are far more common than many people may think.  There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a floor collapse. For example, damaged or rotten wooden support beams could contribute to a collapse. Damage can come from termites that eat through the wood and hollow it out. Improper building materials can also lead to a collapse. Building owners often try to cut corners by using materials that are not high-quality and are more prone to collapse. Victims of floor collapses tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

All property owners in New York have a legal responsibility to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This should be done for the benefit of all persons whos presence on a property is reasonably foreseeable. When a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition with a property they must take measures to correct that dangerous condition. When a property owner fails to take action to correct a dangerous condition they could be liable in the event of an accident. There are a number of steps that should be taken after a floor collapse.

  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Work records should be examined.
  • Medical records should be preserved.

Any person that is injured in a floor collapse accident may be able to seek justice through a bodily injury claim. Many people don’t realize how badly they are injured until several weeks or months after an accident. It is always a good idea to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney after an accident. An attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
