A five-alarm fire broke out in the building and sent thick smoke billowing into the air.Multiple fire units and paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. Tragically, three people succumbed to their injuries. Another 14 people were treated for injuries at local hospitals.At least two of those victims reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the cause of the residential fire remains ongoing at this time.Liability for New York City Apartment FiresProperty owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition.
