2012 marks the 7th year of the Foundation’s Annual Gardiner Basketball Classic Tournament, and this year’s event is slated to be bigger and better than ever before. The tournament is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 18th and 19th at St. James Park in the Bronx. The law firm of Gersowitz Libo and Korek, P.C. takes great pride in its affiliation with The Gardiner Foundation.
The two-day event has become one of the area’s highly-anticipated summer events, and it generally receives a great deal of local media coverage. In the past, the event has even garnered some celebrity participate, with the legendary John Starks from the New York Knicks tossing up the opening tip-off, and NBA star Ben Gordon passing out laptops to the youth. This year, attendees can expect to see live entertainment, as well as plenty of good food and music. Part of the event will also include a memorial service in honor of those individuals who have recently passed away, during which time the family members will be given a memorial plaque in honor of the deceased.
The Gardiner Foundation, Inc.
Created by Dexter Gardiner in 2006, The Gardiner Foundation, Inc. serves as a memoriam of the tragic loss of six of his family members during a devastating motor vehicle accident. Realizing that other families in the community that have gone through similar loss have needs that often go unmet, The Gardiner Foundation, Inc. began its quest by way of an outreach initiative that provides a number of support vehicles to community members who are grappling with a variety of social and financial needs that range from spiritual mentoring and guidance to burial assistance and even scholarships for college-bound high school graduates.
