PLAYERS HIT THE COURT FOR A WEEKEND OF BASKETBALL AT THE 5TH ANNUAL GARDINER MEMORIAL BASKETBALL CLASSIC TOURNAMENT AUGUST 14TH AND 15TH
Four Scholarships to be Awarded to College-Bound Community Members
The 5th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament, run by the Gardiner Foundation, will offer fun and excitement on the basketball court on August 14th & 15th. Along with some celebrity appearances, hundreds of local Bronx residents will come together with players from across the country to play basketball, enjoy free food and entertainment, and see four scholarships awarded to college-bound high school seniors. The free tournament is sponsored by Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. and will take place at St. James Park in the Bronx on West 192nd Street and Jerome Avenue from 12:OO PM- 8:00 PM both days. (Please note rain location: Gaucho Gym, 478 Gerard Ave., Bronx, NY.)
The Gardiner Foundation was established in 2006 by Dexter Gardiner, in memoriam of the loss of six of his family members in a horrific car accident on the Bronx River Parkway. Building upon his family’s legacy of helping others in need and involvement in the game of basketball, the Foundation embarked on a community outreach initiative that offers educational scholarships, spiritual guidance, and burial assistance to other families in the community who have suffered a sudden and tragic loss. Since its conception, The Foundation has awarded six scholarships to students entering college for the first time. These awards provide much needed assistance towards the purchase of books, clothing, and other items necessary for an enrolling college student.
