Liability For Queens Bus Accidents

Far too many people are injured in bus accidents every year in New York. According to the New York Post, “MTA buses racked up at least 21,823 crashes, collisions and other mishaps over 31 months beginning in 2015 — an average of 23 per day.”  The vast majority of bus accidents are totally preventable. There are a number of factors that could contribute to a bus accident.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Driver fatigue

All bus drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1180, no person shall operate a vehicle at a speed greater than would be reasonable or safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of  a negligence claim. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injured in a bus accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover many of the expenses that can come with a serious collision. Many accident victims may not realize the full extent of their injuries  for several weeks or months after a collision. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
