Scooter Rider Killed In Flushing, Queens Truck Accident

Tractor-Trailer Truck Turning Left Involved In Deadly Flushing, Queens Scooter Accident By Northern Boulevard and Parsons Boulevard

Scooter Rider Killed In Flushing, Queens Truck Accident

QUEENS, NEW YORK (December 28, 2023) – A scooter rider has tragically died in a Flushing, Queens hit-and-run semi-truck accident by Northern Boulevard and Parsons Boulevard.

New York City police officials are saying that the incident took place around 6:15 a.m. on Thursday. A moped rider was crossing the street when they were hit by a red tractor-trailer truck making a left turn.

The semi-truck involved in the collision did not stop and kept driving westbound. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene. A full investigation into the Flushing truck accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Queens Semi-Truck Accidents

Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are much more likely to be overlooked. According to one report from the New York City Department of Transportation, “Pedestrians are 10 times more likely to die than a motor vehicle occupant in the event of a crash. Serious pedestrian crashes are about two-thirds deadlier on major street corridors than on smaller local streets.” Semi-truck drivers should take a number of steps in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • Semi-truck drivers should be well rested before the start of their shift.
  • Semi-truck drivers should make sure that their vehicle is well maintained.
  • Semi-truck drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.

Semi-truck drivers must get a commercial license and are held to a high standard. Many truck accidents involved drivers that make dangerous left turns. Pursuant to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1163, “No person shall turn a vehicle at an intersection […] or move right or left upon a roadway unless and until such movement can be made with reasonable safety.” If a truck driver fails to exercise due care and collides with a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

If a truck driver was working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful acts of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. The family of any person that is killed due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A truck accident attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
