Robyn Sweeney Killed In Volney Car Accident On County Route 6

OSWEGO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (December 29, 2021) – A woman identified as Robyn Sweeney has tragically died in a car accident on County Road 6 after a pickup truck driver lost control.

Oswego County police officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:04 p.m. on Monday, December 27th. The driver of a pickup truck pulling a trailer jackknifed in the roadway and collided with the Kia Forte driven by Robyn Sweeney.

The force of the impact caused the Kia to face the wrong way in the southbound lanes when it was struck head-on by a  Mazda SUV driven by Jennifer Loveless. Robyn Sweeney’s vehicle was then pushed into a pair of hedges.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help both of the victims. Jennifer Loveless was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite life-saving measures  Robyn Sweeney died due to her injuries. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Oswego County Truck Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States. The vast majority of car accidents are due to human error. In fact, 93% of collisions could be prevented if all drivers consistently followed all traffic regulations.  Speeding and distracted driving are some of the most common contributing factors for car accidents. What follows below are other factors that may potentially contribute to a collision.

  • Driver intoxication
  • Driver fatigue
  • Inclement weather
  • Vehicle malfunctions

Driving a truck with a trailer is much more difficult than driving a passenger vehicle with nothing attached. Vehicles tend to jackknife when the its tires lose traction with the road ahead of them. This tends to happen when drivers are going too fast for the prevailing conditions. According to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law 1180 (a), “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” When a driver speeds prior to a collision and hits another vehicle they can be held at fault through a civil claim.

If the driver of a pickup truck was working at the time of a collision, the company that they were working for could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the negligent actions of their employees. Pickup trucks are used in many industries including construction and transportation. It’s important to determine the status of a truck driver at the time of a collision. There are a number of other steps that should be taken after a car accident.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Work records of the at-fault driver should be examined.

Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may be able to seek justice through a bodily injury claim. Similarly, the family of a loved one that is killed in an accident can seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral costs. A car accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
