BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (October 23, 2022) – A man has tragically died in a Brooklyn hit-and-run car accident by the intersection of  4th Avenue at 59th Street.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place in the early morning hours. A man was crossing the intersection when he tripped and was hit by a vehicle.

Liability In Brooklyn Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run accidents. According to the AAA Foundation, “In 2016, there were 1,980 fatal hit-and-run crashes resulting in 2,049 fatalities. This is the highest annual number of hit-and-run fatalities or crashes recorded since NHTSA began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.” There are a number of steps that should be taken after any hit-and-run collision.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Fragments of the fleeing vehicle should be sought.

It is illegal to flee the scene of any collision that causes bodily injury or death. Any person that flees the scene of any injury collision could face civil and criminal liability for their actions. The family of any person that died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
