Liability In Staten Island Pedestrian Accidents

The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable and involve some amount of human error. According to the CDC, “More than 7,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2020. That’s about one death every 75 minutes.” There are many steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Drivers should always scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A pedestrian accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
