Liability For Rochester Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked by drivers. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Nearly 8,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2021. That’s about one death every 66 minutes. One in six people who died in crashes in 2021 were pedestrians.” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
- Drivers should always use their turn signals.
- Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are due to drivers that are speeding. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that died in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
