Liability In Passaic County Car Accidents

Car accidents are one of the leading causes of serious injury and death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “more than 32,000 people are killed and 2 million are injured each year from motor vehicle crashes. In 2013, the US crash death rate was more than twice the average of other high-income countries.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a car accident.

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Driver fatigue

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous turns. Pursuant to New Jersey Vehicle Code 39:4-126, no person shall turn a vehicle on a roadway or into a private driveway unless and until such movement can be made with reasonable safety. If a victim was seriously injured in  a collision, the at fault driver could potentially be held liable through a civil claim. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage
  • Death

Victims of car accidents can seek aid through the state’s no-fault insurance scheme. They can also file a negligence claim if they were seriously injured. Damages can help with lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A New Jersey wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
