Liability In Manhasset Residential Explosions
Thousands of people are injured every year in residential explosions. According to Scientific American “170 steam boilers exploded in the United States last year, killing 259 persons and injuring 555. The classified list shows the largest number of explosions in any class to have been 47, in sawing, planing and woodworking mills.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to boiler explosions.
- Improper gas lines
- Ignition failures
- Loose valves
Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for any boiler explosion. The property owner that controlled the boiler could be liable for failing to adequately maintain their premises. Building owners in New York have a legal responsibility to maintain their properties in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for the protection of everyone on a property whose presence is reasonably foreseeable. If a property owner failed to adequately maintain a boiler and it exploded, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of explosions tend to suffer very serious injuries including:
- Burn injuries
- Organ damage
Any person that is injured in a residential explosion may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, property owners will often fight extremely hard to deny liability for any accident. A premises liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
