One Person Injured In Duanesburg Fire Truck Accident on Interstate 88

DUANESBURG, NEW YORK (April 11, 2023) – One person was hospitalized in a Duanesburg car accident with a fire truck along Interstate 88, according to the NYSP.

Duanesburg police officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday night. A passenger car was stopped in eastbound lanes of traffic when it was hit by a fire truck.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims. One person was taken to the Albany Medical Center via LifeNet.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Duanesburg Fire Truck Accidents

Car accidents are one of the leading causes of serious injury and death in the United States. Many collisions involve driver fatigue. According to the NHTSA, “in 2017, 91,000 police-reported crashes involved drowsy drivers. These crashes led to an estimated 50,000 people injured and nearly 800 deaths.” There are many other factors that could contribute to car accidents.

  • Speeding
  • Driver intoxication
  • Poor road conditions
  • Vehicle system failures

All drivers must continuously scan the road ahead of them in order to prevent collisions. According to New York Vehicle and Traffic Law 1129, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends another vehicle in their own lane. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Soft tissue damage

If the operator of a fire truck was working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. Any person that is injured in a fire truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. A car accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
