Multiple People Injured In Colonie Ambulance Accident on Interstate 87 By Exit 4

COLONIE, NEW YORK (January 25, 2022) – Multiple people were injured in a Colonie ambulance accident on the Interstate 87 Freeway not far from Exit 4.

Colonie police officials are saying that the collision took place around 3:20 p.m. on Monday. An ambulance was heading down the freeway when it crossed the median and hit a guardrail.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims. The driver, paramedic and patient were all injured in the crash.

Police suspect that the driver lost consciousness prior to the collision. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Colonie Ambulance Accidents

Many people are injured in accidents in ambulances every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2020, 180 people died in crashes involving emergency vehicles. The majority of these deaths were occupants of non-emergency vehicles (56%). Deaths among pedestrians accounted for another 25%, while emergency vehicle drivers represented 11% and emergency vehicle passengers accounted for about 5% of the deaths.” Victims of ambulance accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injured in an ambulance accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, it is common for ambulance companies to deny all liability for a collision involving their driver. A car accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
