Multiple Pedestrians Injured In Midtown Car Accident

Driver Strikes Several Pedestrians After Running Through Red Light In Midtown

Multiple Pedestrians Injured In Midtown Car Accident

MIDTOWN, NEW YORK (September 24, 2023) – Several pedestrians were seriously injured after a driver hit them along West 31st Street in Midtown, Manhattan.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place on Monday. A woman was driving a vehicle and went through a red light before striking several pedestrians.

She told investigators that she closed her eyes and was praying prior to the collision. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims.

The driver is facing multiple criminal charges. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Midtown Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian collisions. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “an estimated 137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash.” There are many step that drivers should take in order to avoid collisions.

  • Drivers should slow down during inclement weather.
  • Drivers should check their blind spots before turning.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

The vast majority of pedestrian collisions are avoidable and involve some amount of driver error. If a driver fails to slow down and hits a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured due to the negligence of another driver may be able to seek some measure of justice through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with a serious injury.
