Liability In Brooklyn Car Accidents
Scooters have grown in popularity with the rise of companies like Bird and Lime. But so have the number of serious scooter accidents. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), “There were more than 190,000 emergency room (ED) visits due to all micromobility products from 2017 through 2020. ED visits had a steady 70% increase from 34,000 (2017), 44,000 (2018), 54,800 (2019) to 57,800 (2020).” There a number of common causes of scooter accidents.
- Distracted driving
- Inclement weather
- Driver fatigue
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. When a driver fails to exercise due care and hits a pedestrian, they can be held at fault through a civil claim. The family of any victim that died may be able to seek justice through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
