Sadly, the pedestrian died due to the severe nature of their injuries.
Liability For Newburgh Car Accidents
Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run collisions. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “The current analysis found that both the rates of hit-and-run crashes and fatalities are increasing. There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds.” Hit-and-run collisions are much more likely to occur in urban areas during the early morning and late evening. Many steps should be taken after any hit-and-run collision.
- Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
- Medical records should be preserved.
- Surveillance footage should be sought.
- Fragments of the fleeing vehicle should be examined.
When a driver hits a pedestrian or another vehicle and flees the scene, it is common for pieces of the fleeing vehicle to break off. These fragments can be used to identify the vehicle that left the scene. It is important that evidence is properly preserved after any hit-and-run collision. The family of any person that died in a collision may be able to seek some measure of justice through a wrongful death claim.
