L’Oreal Sued By California Woman Who Claimed Hair Products Lead To Fibroids Diagnosis
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (November 11, 2022) – A woman from California is suing cosmetics giant L’Oreal and alleging their hair straightening products lead to her fibroids diagnosis.
The lawsuit in California alleged that the plaintiff’s fibroids were the result of chemical mixtures in L’Oreal products, including Dark & Lovely, Olive Oil Relaxer and Just for Me.
This lawsuit comes just a few weeks after L’Oreal was sued in federal court by a 28-year-old woman. She claimed that her frequent use of hair straightening products led to her uterine cancer.
That lawsuit came just a few days after a study was published in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that found a link between chemical hair straighteners and uterine cancer.
Researchers have long known about a link between frequent use of chemical hair straightening products and breast and ovarian cancer. The study in the NIH was the first reported link between chemical hair straighteners and uterine cancer.
A campaign group has begun an effort to persuade beauty firms to pull L’Oreal’s ‘toxic’ hair products off their shelves. These products are often primarily targeted at black women who have been disproportionately affected by uterine cancer.
