Long Island Railroad Train Crash in Brooklyn Injures More Than 100

On Wednesday, January 4th during the morning rush hour, a Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train derailed at Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal. More than 100 people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

Train CrashThe LIRR is the nation’s busiest commuter railroad, with about 300,000-weekday passengers on lines that stretch from Long Island’s eastern tip to Manhattan. Atlantic Terminal is Brooklyn’s busiest transit hub, a nexus for nine subway lines in addition to the suburban trains. At the time of this accident, more than 600 people were on the train.

The train departed Far Rockaway at 7:18 a.m. and was due to arrive at the Atlantic Terminal at 8:11 a.m. The accident occurred at 8:20 a.m. The LIRR train derailed on Track 6, slamming into a bumper block at the transit hub as it pulled into the station. Officials are still investigating why the train failed to stop where it was supposed to.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all those injured in the Long Island Railroad train accident. We are hopeful that the numerous innocent individuals who were hurt in the accident receive the medical treatment they need so that they can begin to heal from their injuries.
