According to III, “In 2019, 5,014 motorcyclists died in motorcycle crashes, down slightly from 5,038 in 2018, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Dangerous turns
  • Inclement weather

All drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting motorcyclists. Many motorcycle collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code § 1128, no driver shall move their vehicle from the lane they are in unless such a movement can be made with reasonable safety. If a driver hits a motorcyclist, they could be held liable through a negligence claim. Victims of motorcycle accidents tend to suffer serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage
  • PTSD

Any person that is injured in a  car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. It is important for victims to continue to seek medical care. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
